In Our Class This Week...

Hello wonderful families! I hope you enjoyed your 3 day weekend (4 for us)! I sure did :)

I've had some questions on what we need in the classroom. Here are some things we could use:
3 Over the Ear Headphones (can be found in the Target Dollar Spot for $5)
Scholastic Books for our Listening Center (find our Wish List on the Reading Club page)
Gently used board games or card games

2/23: Free Dress

2/24: Awards Assembly @ 8am

3/2: Read Across America 
Volunteers needed for a fun day of Dr. Seuss
Available times are:
8:30
9:30
10:30
1:15
2:15

Sign Up sheet will be outside of the classroom.
Donations needed:
Corn starch (44 cups needed)
Blue jello (individual cups)
Swedish fish
22 String cheese 
Popcorn (individual ziplock portions for 22 students)

3/7: NO SCHOOL (pending Board approval)

3/15: Wacky Wednesday - Solar Ovens S'mores
Volunteers needed

22 Cereal boxes
Saran wrap
Foil
1 box of Graham crackers
2 bags of Large Marshmallows
8 bars of Chocolate

Language Arts: Unit 4 Week 3: "One Little Mouse"
CVC reading test (Friday)
CVC words and words with beginning blends
Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF)
Say all the sounds in words

Letter(s) of the week: Blends
Blends song 1
Home activities: Look for the blends (in all types of fonts)
Say words that begin with the Sl,Br, Sc, Sn
Draw pictures that begin with the blends mentioned above
Sound  out  blend CVC words (determine if real or silly)
Slip, Slim, Brat, Brin, Scop, Scod, Snap, Snog
Make a list words with these endings
-at, -eg, -ip, -og, -up

Weekly reading comprehension test: Every Friday (Based on the comprehension skill of the week)
Song we review in class: Parts of a story song
This week's focus:  Sequence

High Frequency Words (HFW-also known as Sight words : Same set of words last for two weeks. These words are meant to be read just by seeing them.
This week's words: one, two, three, four, five

Math: Unit 9 Comparing Numbers to 10
    Begin Unit 9 Comparing Numbers to 10
    Comparing numbers game song

    Build numbers up to 10, determine which has more/less
    Card games: War
    Hand Games (Rock, paper, Scissors with numbers)

    Science: Chapter 6 Objects
    Students will be able to identify and describes what they observe with the senses
    5 Senses

    Social Studies: Presidents 

    Writing: The Handwriting House
    Write sentences with a "WHO" and "WHAT"
    Practice paper (print and use at home)
