In Our Class This Week...

Once again what a great week! I am so proud of my kiddos and how far they have come in just two weeks. Please continue to reinforce the following hand signals and rules: 

Hand Signals: (show me the number of fingers in the air)
1 finger: shoelace tied
Work with your child to learn how to tie their own shoes
2 fingers: restroom
Encourage your child to use the restroom before school, during recess, during lunch, during PE and after school.
3 fingers: water
Children may bring their own water bottle to keep in class, please LABEL it with their name
4 fingers: tissue
when needed, please ask student to sit back down right away
5 fingers: question

Classroom rules:
#1: Listen while the teacher is talking
#2: Follow directions quickly
#3: Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school
#4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
#5: Keep your hands to yourself
#6: Keep your dear teacher happy

Here is a look into our week
Language Arts: Unit 1 Week 2: "We Are So Proud"
Words to talk about: words found in the story
Words to read: HFW/Sight words
Weekly reading comprehension test: Every Friday (Based on the comprehension skill of the week)
Song we review in class:  Parts of a story song
This week's focus: SETTING

High Frequency Words (HFW- also known as Sight words: Same set of words last for two weeks. These words are meant to be read just by seeing them.
This week's words: I, am (same as last week's)

Sight Word Sundaes: (HFW word list): Every time your child passes a word list, they will be given the next list to practice and will be given a part of their Sundae. Please color, cut out at home and return back to me. I will be hanging these up in the classroom.

Math: Unit 1-Matching and Sorting (lessons 1.5-1.9)
Students will be able to show same and different
categories: color, shape, size, pattern
Students will be able to show partners
Spoon/fork, paper/pencil, etc.

Science: Finish Chapter 1- The Nature of Science
Students will be able to tell about working together to ask and answer questions.
Students will identify ways to record and share information about observations and tests.
Science Test on Friday.

Social Studies: Unit 1 Lesson 2-"Who are good citizens?"
Student will able to learn examples of honesty, courage, world history from stories and folklore.
Social Studies test on Friday.

Writing Through the Year: Writing is just telling on paper
Student will begin to write in their journals (pictures or sentences)
